he Oteji Foundation for Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness will be formally inaugurated on Saturday 14 November 2026 at Rockview Hotels, Government Station Layout, Owerri, starting at 11:00AM prompt.
Substance abuse is taking young people from our communities. Methamphetamine, known locally as mkpurummiri, cannabis, cigarettes and alcohol are cheap, everywhere, and quietly ending futures before they begin. In the words of our founder, Oteji Ezra Agwu, Esq., a criminal lawyer who has met too many of those futures in prison cells: prevention costs a fraction of what treatment does, and it saves far more.
The foundation was registered in August 2026 to take that conviction to the grassroots: honest lessons in schools, open conversation in markets, churches and village meetings, a confidential helpline for families, and advocacy for policies that protect young people. The inauguration is the public start of that work.
The programme brings together the people whose partnership this work depends on: government, law enforcement and drug-control agencies, religious leaders, the Bar, teachers, schools, and the community. The morning will include the formal inauguration of the foundation and its promoters, addresses from invited guests, and a word of exhortation. Refreshments will be served.
Parents and families. Teachers and school heads. Youth and student leaders. Faith leaders. Health workers. Anyone who has watched a young person change and did not know who to call. If that is you, you are invited.
Seats are limited, so please register in advance. It takes a minute: www.otyfound.org/register
